DIRECTOR & TRAINER
I came to the UK from Bangladesh at the age of 20. I had recently got married and soon after I came to the UK, I gave birth to my son. Following this, I went through significant personal challenges and tribulations. However, I always maintained a positive attitude, and a hard-work ethic to achieve my goals.
Through my work over the last 18 years for the Tower Hamlets Local Authority, the NHS, the Bromley by Bow Community Centre and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine I have gained a thorough knowledge and understanding of the different barriers that can prevent people from reaching their full potential.
My role was to support those who were struggling to find employment, those with social issues including mental health, family problems, housing issues, homelessness, criminal convictions, substance misuse and more. Human beings are constantly growing and they are faced with many challenges and difficulties. I understand that living life in despair disheartens people, and knocks their confidence. As self-confidence diminishes, so does the will to get up, become motivated and drive themselves to reach their full potential.
Through my work, I realized that information, advice, and guidance is a small part of the support my clients needed for their journey towards changing their lives. I soon found myself coaching my clients about time management, motivation, health management and much more. I realized that when my clients gained a good understanding and knowledge of these topics, they became more capable of achieving what they desired. They became motivated and took responsibility for their own wellbeing and were clear about their goals.
When I started managing teams I started to realise that it’s not just our clients that need support, but we as a team needed guidance from experts in different aspects of life to mentor and coach us so that we could better help our clients.
I also worked as a research assistant in the Department of Population Studies at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. From this I learnt how to build a platform for research and deliver it in a structured way. During this time, I researched social, economic and cultural aspects of both domestic and commercial life. From this, I developed a keen interest in understanding how people think, what they believe in, how they live their lives, their rituals, habits, personality, faiths and how all these things shaped their experiences.
I have written a book on the purpose of life, and how to find happiness and success. I have designed multiple training programmes which aim to support clients and teams to reach their full potential. I am passionate about helping people. I want to support my clients and take them on a journey towards wellness, happiness and success.
I don’t call myself a master as I am a student in this world. I am too constantly learning and growing. Often the people I support and coach are the best teachers for me. So, I want to invite you to come along with me on this journey and together we will find ways to become better versions of ourselves.
I am an experienced services manager, having led a variety of family support services (including Troubled Families, Young Carers, Parent Carers, mental health, Children Centre’s and ex-offender provisions) all of which come with their own challenges and rewards. I am passionate about ensuring those who work in these fields are effectively trained to equip them with the skills and abilities to carry out their job to help achieve excellent outcomes for families. I am a warm caring individual with great engagement and people skills. I am experienced in delivering the following training days:
- Outcome Star
- Child Protection Level One
- Identification & Support of Young Carers
- Domestic Abuse – Risk identification
I practice as a Coach, and a Tai Chi Instructor I have found both Coaching and Tai Chi to be a powerful inspiration both as a practitioner and as a client or student. I never tire of learning about what empowers people in reaching their highest potential. Most of my career I have worked in social care and community development, practicing as an independent social worker, mentor, project manager, and practice educator. An important part of my career has been working in partnership with people to achieve positive change in their lives. Over the last 35 years this work has taken me as far as New Delhi to the East End of London. Now that I have retired from Social Work I now focus more on promoting wellbeing and personal potential.
Coaching is of value to anyone who is interested in developing self-awareness, choice and personal effectiveness. It is a forward thinking process that helps people focus on their potential. People who come for Coaching vary, from those who seek change in their career, personal relationships, guidance on developing a spiritual practice, maintaining physical and mental health, issues related to parenting, and making a life transition. Coaching takes place in a safe, open and non-judgmental environment, and is created in partnership with the coach. It is a time to stop and reflect, and connect with what really matters, to make decisions on which direction to go. It’s an opportunity to shed light on choices and actions.
Tai Chi is a dynamic form of moving meditation which helps bring about calm and peace of mind whilst gently exercising the whole body. It stresses the principles of relaxation and yielding, and the cultivation of inner strength and harmony of both body and mind. The practice of this art brings us into balance with ourselves and with those around us.
Tai Chi offers a wealth of benefits much needed in today’s hectic world. Where modern life is fast paced and stressful, Tai Chi helps us to slow down and re-balance ourselves. When we can't seem to switch off and our mind is spinning, this art can help us to return to a calm, peaceful state free from worry and anxiety.
My own journey with Tai Chi began in 2004. My first teacher practiced with Rose Lee in London in the 1970’s, Rose Lee was a Chinese Master of several Tai chi forms. I studied a Beijing form for 8 years. I found the classes enjoyable as well as challenging, and quickly made Tai Chi not just a class practice, but a life practice. After my teacher left London, my next step was to grow into teaching.
I enrolled on a Tai Chi instructor-training course with Tai Chi Nation a social enterprise based in North Devon. There I learned a Yang Style 24 compact form,(BCCA simplified Yang form as taught by Master Huang) a Tai Chi Qi Gong set, (Shi Ba Shi 18 movements as developed by Lin Hou Sheng) and Qi Theory based on Chinese Traditional Medicine. My teachers were students of Luke Shepherd who studied under Patrick Kelly a senior student of Master Huang.
I graduated in 2013, and registered as a Tai Chi instructor with the Tai Chi Union of Great Britain, and have been teaching for the last 3 years. My further professional development and practice continues with Tai Chi Nation as well as with Masters Faye and Tary Yip of the Deyin institute of Tai Chi. I am also a registered instructor with the Tai Chi For Health Institute founded by Dr Paul Lam. I have an instructor certificate for teaching Tai Chi for Rehabilitation, and an instructors certificate for teaching Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls prevention.
